Snoop Doggy Dog, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown, David Beckham and the kid from Tropic Thunder visit the Star Wars Cantina all in the name of Adidas?

CRU 3 – Austin International 5

So they were all dead, and the flash-sideways were supposed to be purgatory? What about the temple people that got introduced at the beginning of the season? What about the giant lizard-head statue, what about the island being under water? Oh wait, wrong season finale. The Cameron Road season ended not with a whimper, but a bang, as the boys in red tried to stave off a trip to D3 in the fall, but fell short in a 6 goal second half flurry.

It was another hot afternoon out at Onion Creek, but the fields were eerily empty as the weekend was used for season-ending make-up games. Cameron Road fielded a strong squad with 3 subs, but were missing key players Willis, Pat, Crosley, Vestre, Cuyler and the O’Driscol Dragon. The first 10 minutes started well for CRU, there was some crisp passing but an early Chappy shot in the box went just wide. (if you consider the length of a VW Bug just wide)

CRU 4 – Massive Attack 3

Cameron Road United made their sacrifice to the tree line with a  4-3 thrilling victory against Massive Attack today, paying their respects to the looming arbor-filled backdrop and serving notice to the rest of D2 that they will not bow out of this season, let alone another division, quietly.

CRU 1 – Elite FC 0

After receiving a red-headed-stepchild-like beating last week at the hands of Div 2 lumberjacks Verity, Cameron Road United bounced back yesterday to defeat Elite FC 1-0.

The victory was in part helped by the bountiful assortment of players available on the sidelines, 6 subs compared to Elite’s none. This was especially valuable when Elite mounted their second half charge and Cameron Road was able to flood the field with fresh legs.

CRU 0 – Verity 6

For 65 minutes, it really didn’t seem that bad. Holding onto a slim 2-0 lead, Verity unleashed a 20 minute barrage of goals to close out the game and send Cameron Road home with a massive loss. With the majority of defenders unavailable for this week’s game, CRU sported a makeshift lineup, but still had several good chances on goal throughout the game but just couldn’t make anything stick.

Man-of-the Match: The tent. The tent provided unwavering shade and quality protection from the sun from the minute it was assembled to the second it came down 2 hours after the game. The tent did not judge the players by their performance on the field, but rather was there to comfort them win or lose. The tent provided the needed coolness for the players to come to a conclusion regarding their new uniforms. All hail the tent.

CRU 0 – Deportivo Fuerza 1

Tough loss. Damn, this one just got away from CRU at the death.

NEMP, where wind is born. – BT

On a windy day up north, Cameron Road took on the league’s top dawg, Deportivo, in a battle of league bookends. Deportivo, riding a wave of victories and determined to stay top of the table, and Cameron Road, riding a string of victories but trying to get out of the cellar.

CRU 1 – Austin Athletic Club 0

As backyard beer drinkers all across America took notice, Cameron Road United reeled off their second pint-powered 1-0 victory in a row against teams sponsored by clear liquors. Last weekend, it was the sorority house party Mike’s Hard Lemonade that felt the pub wrath; and this weekend it was Austin Athletic Club that payed the price for being sponsored by nightclub vodka that has more business in Maxim magazine than in a post-soccer match celebration.

CRU 1 – Black Star Austin 0

Cameron Road United defeated Black Star Austin in dramatic fashion on Sunday. The defense continued to shine, pitching a shutout at one end and scoring the winner at the other.

There was a good vibe in the air before the game, with three subs available, and a timely appearance from Pat (who arrived by black helicopter from Houston minutes before the game) Cameron Road would field a strong team for this week’s installment of Thunderdome.

Double Header Weekend Decided with a Double Dose of Disastrous Defeat

In what was billed as a two-fer weekend of soccer action, Cameron Road United fell twice on consecutive days and got knocked out of the Aztex Cup competition and fell further down the Division 2 table. The news off the pitch wasn’t any better as several players earned early vacations with injuries.
